Four of Cork's Lord mayors repayed a debt to their old school yesterday morning when they returned to pay tribute to Greenmount National School.The current Lord Mayor, Cllr. Denis Cregan was joined by former incumbents of the office, Pearse Wyse T.D., Toddy O'Sullivan T.D. and Alderman Jim Corr in an unique occasion in the history of "The Green". Each of the politicians attended 'the college on the hill' as primary pupils and this morning each was loud in his praise of their alma mater. |

Things have changed considerably at the school since their schooldays, not least the fact that when they were pupils, the school was restricted to boys only.Commenting on the changeover from boys only to a mixed school, Lord Mayor Cregan said he greatly regretted the fact girls hadn't been present during his time there. |

Each of the men paid tribute to the work done by the Presentation Brothers over the years at Greenmount in laying the foundation for what is now one of the most modern and well equipped schools in the city.Among the guests at this unique event were the Provincial of the Presentation Brothers in Ireland, Bro. Jerome, and a former Principal of Greenmount, Brother Jerome. |
