During the siege of the city in 1690 Elizabeth fort was attacked from the old cat fort which over looked it. The canon fire soon forced the garrison surrender. Elizabeth fort was a strong wall built fort with four bastions but it could not withstand canon fire. Since the siege it was uesd as a barracks and it is now a Garda barracks.
