General Election
Third & Fifth Classes 2002

Election day is here. The Polling Station is open. The 2 Returning Officers are in place and are having their picture taken with the plainclothes Garda. They have the Ballot Box, Voting Papers, Electoral Listand Official Stamp. Everyrhing is in order. As Voters arrive one of the Returning Officers checks their names against the Electoral Register and crooses their names out on the list.

Once their names have been checked against the Electoral List the Voters are given their Ballot Papers.

Once Voters have their Ballot Papers they go to the Voting Booths to cast their Votes. They can give every Candidate a vote in order of their preference. Our Voting Systemis called Proportional Representation.

The Voters cast their votes in the secrecy of the Voting Booth.

Finally Voters show their folded Ballot Papers to the Returning Officer and then place them in the Ballot Box. At the end of the day the Garda will bring the locked Ballot Box to a Counting Centre where all the votes in the Constituency will be counted.
